Turtlehead are a four piece punk band from Scotland. They consist of:
Brian- Vocals
Dave- Guitar/Vocals
Rich- Bass/Vocals
Robert- Drums
Turtlehead first came to life in 1994. The same year, after the line up was
finalised, they recorded their first demo tape "High Flats" With the demo
finally finished, they set about sending away to record companies, generally
trying to get gigs, and trying to get the name about. The tape got them airplay
on Scottish radio and also got them an interview in a punk zine called Maximum
rock 'n' roll. In the meantime a track was lifted from the demo tape a put on a Bad
Taste compilation CD, "Quality Punk Rock". They recorded the single in the April of
1996 and it was released in the June.
After the single, Bad Taste asked the band to record their first full length CD So
after July in the studio "Back Slapping Praise From Back Stabbing Men" was
released in the autumn of 1996. In October 97 Turtlehead embarked on their
first major European tour withlabel mates "Pridebowl", this tour was 25 dates long
and took in 8 European countries. Less than a week after this tour ended Turtlehead
went into the studio to record their 2nd album, again for Bad Taste, released in April 98,
the album was called "I Preferred Their Earlier Stuff". This album picked up
from where the first one left off and was heavily promoted to extensive
touring, both in UK and mainland Europe.
The band were doing well in 1999, but Paul had decided that he couldn't commit
himself to the band. After a very small search Rich was the new bassist for Turtlehead.
They are set to play many big gig's next year so watch out for them!
